The novel „heat and dust“, written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala is about a young woman who goes to India in the 1970’s to trace back the life of Olivia. Olivia was the first wife of her grandfather, who lived in India in the 1920’s and eloped with an Indian prince.The narrators sparked interest in this scandal because she received the letters, which Olivia wrote to her sister Marcia in that time.This leads to a story with two plots, on the one hand the narrator writes about her own experiences in India and on the other hand she reflects about Olivia’s life and experiences.
